The disadvantages of social networking go much deeper than privacy and safety today. These are serious drawbacks to relationships and mental health — foundations of human development.
In the past several years, more studies have linked social media to poor mental health. Findings suggest that people who limit social media to 30 minutes daily feel significantly better than those who use social media for longer periods of time. By reducing time spent, people were able to reduce depression, anxiety, and loneliness.
The quality of a conversation using social media is awful because you cannot sense the emotion or enthusiasm from the other person.
Notice how people tend to have the guts to say all sorts of nasty things online? It’s because they think they have a right to say harmful things they wouldn’t say to your face.
LOL. BRB. G2G. You know what these all mean. But when people continue to write like this without using the full word or full sentences, it diminishes your writing ability causing your native language to have many grammatical errors.
Similar to lacking emotional connections, it increases inauthentic emotions, thus causing it to be difficult to read what the other person was actually intentionally trying to mean in their message.
Like said about in point #4, you find it difficult to understand if the person was authentic in their message, so then you lack understanding or unable to determine someone’s level of thoughtfulness.
When you’re so used to communicating via texting or social media messaging platforms, and you finally see your circle of friends or family, the face-to-face interactions are not the same.
You’re less likely to get up and move or get out of the house when you have everything able to come to you all from your phone.
Filters are all the rage today. With the constant use of filters, it creates poor self-image for those lacking in self-esteem. People grow to think that it is a natural look and strive to look like.
Like point #6, you not only feel disconnected from your tribe, but distant too.
Don’t text and drive! Enough said…
If any of these resonate with you or know someone who has succumb to these points, it might be time to have a discussion on how to fix your communication and life skills.
